Child

See the pretty little girl over there
curls put up in pigtails tied with pink bows
such a pretty thing dress ironed to perfection
cheeks plump the color of a blooming pink rose
you thought you saw happiness
a flicker in her infectous smile
a glimmer of her unchanging hope
oh but her eyes tell the tale
a story not seen by her peers
a story that can only be seen by a long gaze in her eyes, deep, deep in the depths
the dark blue glint is not her moonlit brown eyes but an ocean of sorrow
She dances around under the sun hoping it will heal her wounds
the sun toasting her dark skin
if she could only pretend to be happy
if she only could be in a land flowing with gifts of milk and honey
dancing among the buttterflies skipping threw strawberry fields
a deep laughter at nothing at all a laugh not used to disguise, not a trenchcoat, but a funny face
dreaming of good days to come
a dream lost from her tiny hand
she's so child like you say
she's so joyful
the only childlike things are the scars on her arm
the only child like thing is the bear she holds for comfort
the only thing that's there, the only thing that will listen
if only it could respond a hint to heal her pain
she waits in vain for something remarkable
who is the girl behind those eyes
those mezmerizing big brown eyes
not even a girl but a woman
a woman lost in imaginary escape
can u find the woman in the child?
